When to book your graduation photos

UNC Charlotte holds commencement twice a year, in May and in December, in Halton Arena. In 2026 the spring ceremonies ran from May 7 to 9, and the fall ceremonies are on December 11 and 12.

Graduation season fills fast. Book three to six weeks before your ceremony to get golden-hour slots.

Campus spots from recent sessions

These UNC Charlotte spots appear in recent CCD Creative Co graduation galleries. Want a place that is not on the list? Add it when you book: the session can include the places that defined your years on campus.

  • The University of North Carolina at Charlotte entrance sign
  • The library stacks
  • The Belk College of Business sign
  • The campus stadium
  • The university recreation center
  • A champagne toast on brick steps between white columns

Campus rules to know before your session

The UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens require a photography permit for portrait sessions, graduation included. Register at least two business days before the session and bring a $50 donation; photographers must stay on the paths.

Balloons, flags, signs and banners are not allowed inside the commencement ceremony, which has a clear bag policy, so plan any props for your photo session instead. Only graduates and commencement staff can enter the assembly and seating areas.

A note on Belk Tower

Some older photo guides still list Belk Tower as a backdrop. The tower was taken down in early 2016 after the university found serious structural problems, and the area around it is now Belk Plaza.

Getting to campus

The LYNX Blue Line light rail ends at UNC Charlotte–Main station, on Cameron Boulevard next to the main campus.
